Waipa District Council Tiki Tour
About the project
Waipa District Council spend over $100 million a year making their towns fantastic places to live in. A government nationwide effort was made to raise awareness of the local council elections to encourage people to vote.
Candidates will make huge decisions on behalf of their communities so PV helped create an virtual tour of a typical New Zealand town 'Waipa Tiki Tour' the tool would help visitors understand what council actually does.
Building the Tiki Tour
To enhance interactive experience, we gave the user the option to choose a character: male or female and to also select their desired form of transport: horse or bicycle. Once ready to roll, the user scrolled down the page visiting various locations by virtual tour. Every item on the page was drawn: the characters, transport and even the civil defence warnings.
Building a District
It was our job to create a series of illustrations as the user scrolled down the page. The graphics produced represented a typical New Zealand town: the people, the animals, the buildings, the parks, even traffic signs.
A series of icons were developed to communicate the various stages of the tour. This was no simple task, icons must be created to convey a cohesive system of understanding. As the user scrolls the icons animate into view.
Letting people know about your project is key to its success, so Waipa Council’s marketing efforts needed to reach over 46,000 residents. Indeed this is no small task and we designed everything to market the online tool: Posters, banner ads, HDTV screens, and iPad stands.
