Waipa District Council

Waipa District Council spends over $100 million annually, making their towns fantastic places to live. A nationwide government effort was made to raise awareness of the local council elections to encourage people to vote.

Candidates will make huge decisions on behalf of their communities. Hence, PV helped create a virtual tour of a typical New Zealand town, 'Waipa Tiki Tour.' The tool would help visitors understand what the council actually does.

Building the Tiki Tour

To enhance the interactive experience, we gave the user the option to choose a character: male or female and select their desired form of transport: horse or bicycle. Once ready to roll, the user scrolled down the page visiting various locations by virtual tour. Each item on the page was created: the characters, transport, and even the civil defence warnings.

Building Waipa

Adding to the user experience as the user scrolled down the page, the illustrations represented a typical New Zealand town: the people, the animals, the buildings, the parks, and even traffic signs.

Tiki Tour Icons

A set of icons were developed to communicate the various stages of the tour. Making icons are fun, and though they may look relatively simple and easy to create. Icon sets must be created to convey a cohesive system of understanding. We also added a sweet effect. As the user scrolls, the icons animate into view.
